Akbari Department of Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran Journal Article 2008 11 01 As the first case, a baby red eared slider turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans, 1.77 inches long, with a 4 month history of anorexia and blind eyes was referred to the Aquatic Animal Clinic, School of Veterinary Medicine, Shiraz University, Iran. The eyes of the pet were swollen and he was not active in swimming and feeling around. In the clinic, after stress treatment, he was kept in a clean aquarium containing a rock for him to get on. Water temperature in the aquarium was set at 27-29°C. As the basic treatment, the animal was fed with trash fish and shrimp minced with cod liver oil during treatment. As its eyes opened, the baby turtle was treated with a drop of ciprofloxacin (%0.3 ciprofloxacin hydrochloride) eye drop two times a day for prevention of any secondary infections. The case was diagnosed as vitamin A deficient baby turtle. It was restored to good health after three weeks following the prescribed treatments. The results of the investigation of this case show the need for special care in the feeding of baby turtles as they are kept as pets. به عنوان اولین مورد، یک بچه لاک پشت از گونه Trachemys scripta elegans به طول 77/1 اینچ با چهار ماه سابقه بی اشتهایی و کوری چشم به درمانگاه آبزیان دانشکده دامپزشکی دانشگاه شیراز ارجاع گردید. چشمان حیوان متورم بوده، در آب شنا نمی‌کرد و نسبت به اطراف خود بدون احساس بود. در کلینیک پس از درمان کردن استرس، حیوان در یک آکوواریم تمیز که دارای یک سنگ مرتفع برای خارج شدن او از آب بود قرار داده شد. درجه حرارت آب آکوواریم در 27 تا 29 درجه سانتی‌گراد تنظیم گردید. به عنوان درمان اصلی در طول درمان حیوان از غذای تهیه شده از ماهی و میگوی خورد شده مخلوط با روغن کبد ماهی تغذیه گردید. پس از باز شدن چشمان حیوان یک قطره از قطره چشمی سیپروفلاکساسین 3/0% برای پیشگیری از عفونت ثانویه در هر چشم به صورت دو بار در روز چکانیده شد. مورد ارائه شده به عنوان مبتلا به کمبود ویتامین آ تشخیص داده شد. حیوان پس از سه هفته با استفاده از درمان ارائه شده سلامتی کامل خود را کسب نمود. نتیجه بررسی حیوان نشان می‌دهد که توجه اختصاصی در تغذیه بچه لاک پشتهایی که به عنوان حیوانات خانگی نگهداری می‌شوند لازم می‌باشد.
